Metropolitan Atlanta Community Band

Presented by Roswell Roots and Roswell Cultural Arts and City of Roswell, Georgia at Roswell Cultural Arts Center

The Metropolitan Atlanta Community Band (MACB) and Groveway Community Group celebrates Black History Month with classical and popular music composed or performed by African American musicians. MACB, founded by renowned Atlanta music educator Dr. Alfred D. Wyatt (1928-2023), is based in Southwest Atlanta but has performed throughout Atlanta and Washington, DC. Now in its 27th year, MACB is headed by Principal Associate Director Curtis Byrdsong and Associate Directors Vanable Moody and Allen Ward. The 60-piece all-volunteer concert band is a non-profit organization that raises money for college scholarships and advocates for music education in schools. Anyone wishing to join the band or take part in its Student Participation Program may visit www.MACBonline.org.

Groveway Community Group is a non-profit organization committed to providing assistance to the elderly and youth throughout the community, encouraging the preservation of community values, promoting good citizenship, and encouraging participation in the affairs and issues of the community in Roswell since 1943. GCG has a history of being civic-minded as evidenced by its efforts to provide resources to meet the community's needs, both big and small. Our members actively seek to fulfill its mission in a myriad of ways, such as helping families in crisis situations, visiting nursing homes, and providing scholarships to deserving students.

Roswell Roots is a community-wide, month-long festival that honors our diverse community and celebrates Black History Month. Roswell Roots aims to educate, impact, and promote cultural awareness. Programs and events focus on welcoming all community members and offer an opportunity for all ages to engage and participate.
